Bubblin and Northwest House Music Conference come together to bring you two certified legends of Garage and House Music on one extraordinary bill…

Todd Edwards made his PDX debut last November at (the sorely missed) Groove Suite, where he played a euphoric 4.5 hour set, sang ‘Face to Face’ live for the first time ever, and had the club levitating the whole while. Since then he has collaborated again with Daft Punk on their new LP ‘Random Access Memories’, was featured in DP’s The Collaborators series (alongside NIle Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, and Pharrell), done an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, and played choice club and festival dates worldwide. TE’s patented style of hypnotically collaged/cut-up samples over swung beats and lively disco-flavored basslines has influenced seminal artists from Daft Punk to Burial to Joy Orbison and beyond.
Credited as one of the godfathers of UK garage, his pioneering flavor long ago earned him a passionate following in Europe. In addition to his own legendary productions, Edwards has also remixed Justice, Phoenix, Klaxons, Hot Chip, Spank Rock, Boris, Appaloosa, Surkin, Robin S, Zoot Woman, St. Germain, and Dimitri From Paris. Edwards also co-produced, co-wrote, and sang on the Daft Punk song ‘Face to Face’ on their 2001 album Discovery.

With an immense discography that stretches back to 1993, Ian Pooley is one of Germany’s first generation of DJ’s and Producers. But instead of following the distinctly Teutonic sounds emanating from Berlin or Frankfurt, Pooley fell in love with the grooves of Chicago and Detroit. Along with DJ Tonka, Pooley pushed a sound that explored the spaces between house and techno and, as a solo artist, found enormous success – eventually leading to a major label deal with V2 that yielded classic House albums like ‘Meridian’ and ‘Since Then’. Still as vital as ever, recently he’s released a great new LP, ‘What I Do’, on his own label, Pooled Music, and stellar singles for labels the likes of Innervisions, Ovum, and Lazy Days.

DJ PIERRE YALL! The man who was instrumental in defining the sound that launched the rave movement worldwide: ACID HOUSE. With his group, Phuture, in 1986 he released the seminal ‘Acid Tracks’, widely acknowledged as the first ever acid house tune, and a phenomenon was born that is still powerfully reverberating throughout electronic dance culture to this day. He has gone on to produce many more seminal acid, deep, and funky house classics on bedrock labels such as Trax, Strictly Rhythm, Dance Mania, Hot Mix 5 Records, Jack Trax, and more. His discography is a fundamental part of the House Music Canon. Behind the decks, Pierre is a deeply funky Chicago badman who can turn a 21st century dance floor all the way out, as well evidenced by his blinding set on Boiler Room from last August. Trust this will be a phenomenal set from a legend who traces his roots to the beginnings of House Music. Bubblin fam, get ready to jack.

So come one, come all and bear witness to the PDX debut of a true musical icon of our times within the fantastic sounding confines of Mississippi Studios!

Flume is a very young Sydney beat maker who’s grabbed the attention of XLR8R, Electronic Beats, Triple J, FBi and many more in less than a year.

Flume got his first taste for producing at age 13 (!) from the most unlikely of places – a music production program he found in a cereal box. It began Flume’s obsession with all things synthetic, and started his addiction for plug-ins, sample packs & vintage analogue hardware.

‘Sleepless’ was Flume’s debut EP and packed enough lush pads, chopped and chipmunked vocals, saw synths and intricate percussion to impress any fan of Hudson Mohawke, Flying Lotus, Seekae or Space Dimension Controller.

It was described by XLR8R as “a solid piece of soulful beat work.” picking up a 8.6 and nabbing their 2nd most downloaded track in August 2011. It impressed dance music website Electronic Beats so much they said “we reckon this young Australian is going to make waves” while cult German magazine Lodown described it as “the perfect pop record for anyone who’d never even look at what’s going down in the official charts” sealing it with a huge 8/10. Locally in Australia Triple J Morning Host Zan Rowe named it as her Catch of The Day” describing it as “Cut up, warm, rolling, thuddy, wonderful…”.

Shortly after the ‘Sleepless’ EP Flume put his ears and fingers into New Navy’s huge summer anthem ‘Zimbabwe’. The remix was debuted on the Australian hipster bible and recently picked up a NSFW video clip of teenage adventures picking up late night plays on Australian TV show Rage. The month after his New Navy remix came out triple j picked him as their February Mix Up Exclusives Resident – think of it as Australia’s version of the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix for a month!

Flume’s live show is now coming into full effect after selling out 2 national Australian tours and by the end of 2012 Flume would of played prestigious Australian festivals Splendour in the Grass, Parklife and Foreshore as well as a very special event in Sydney called Vivid LIVE at Sydney’s most famous venue The Sydney Opera House.

He’s still more busy than ever producing – recently releasing an original with Anna Lunoe called ‘I Met You’, remixes for Hermitude (Elefant Tracks), The Aston Shuffle and Ta-ku as well as putting the finishing touches on his debut album.

“…a solid piece of soulful beat work.” – XLR8R, scored 8.6

“Flume’s “Sleepless” is the perfect pop record for anyone who’d never even look at what’s going down in the official charts: big, bouncy, super accessible, yet still a little weird in all it’s wobbly warmth. A hook, a beat, more warmth – future soul from Sydney, I’d say. 8/10″- Lodown Magazine

“we reckon this young Australian is going to make waves” – Electronic Beats

Opening Field Day Set – Winner of Triple J Unearthed Competition

Zan Rowe – Catch of the Day – Triple J Mornings

February Mix Up Exclusives Residency – Triple J Mix Up

Runner up for ‘Best Song’ – SMAC Awards

Shortlisted for Northern Lights Competition – FBi Radio

About DANNY CORN (Portland, OR)

Danny Corn lives the vanguard of electronic music, leaving the trends to other people. As a DJ, he is known as an instrumental player in the formation of the “west coast” sound. Over the years Danny Corn has travelled extensively and played with just about everybody who has made moves in the scene. A champion of syncopated, bass heavy music, Danny Corn rides the edge of experimental sounds, whilst staying firmly committed to the dancefloor.

Gulls is the music of Boomarm Nation founder Jesse Munro Johnson.

Exploring the reaches of DUB SPACE, and SCI-FI POLY-RHYTHMICS, Gulls takes cues from world classical / traditional musics, minimalist ethos, dub pioneers, and oversized sound systems. With a harmonic spine and an experimental spirit, every track is built entirely from the ground up. Sampling only himself, cutting up and rearranging myriad textures — horns, synthesizers, string instruments, etc –

Gulls takes on a version of a version of a version, blowing basic pieces of music into astronomical proportions, into mammoth versions with their own savage lives.

He lives in the Pacific Northwest, in Portland, Oregon.
